RegionEdit

Main article: Alola Region.

The Alola region consists of 5 main islands:

Melemele Island

Akala Island

Ula Ula Island

Poni Island

Artificial Island

Some older Pokemon receive new variants that are called Alolan Forms.

PokemonEdit

Main article: New Pokemon.

There are over 50 new pokemon including:

Pikipek, Jungoos, Grubbin and Minior.

ZygardeEdit

Main article: Zygarde

Getting Zygarde is one of the most unique, and cumbersome, ways to get a Legendary Pokémon. To get it, you need to collect Zygarde Cells within the Zygarde Cube and take them to the special caravan in Route 16. These cells will depend on what you can do. Until you have collected all the cells, you'll be able to create Zygarde at the Zygarde Restoration Center. This allows for you to put together a Zygarde. If you have 10 cells, it will create a 10% Forme Zygarde, and if you have 50 it will create a 50% Zygarde. These have Aura Break. These Pokémon can then be used to assemble or separate the Zygarde. If you separate Zygarde, the Pokémon will be lost entirely, but can be rebuilt just with different IVs and no EVs. The level increases with the progression in your game. After you have collected all 100 cells, you'll be able to combine them more solidly into a Zygarde with the Power Construct ability. This will then allow it to change between 10% and 50% Forme using the Zygarde Cube, and turn into Complete Forme in battle.

PokedexEdit

Main article: Rotom Pokedex.

The Rotom Pokédex is a new feature in Pokémon Sun & Moon. In order to create the most efficient Pokédex, Professor Kukui had a Rotom inhabit it in order to give the best experience. The Rotom Pokédex is more than just a Pokédex, but rather it contains many features such as showing your next location, advice on where to go next and so forth.

New Mechanics and FeaturesEdit

Z-MovesEdit

Main article: Z-Moves.

Following on from Mega Evolution, Pokémon Sun & Moon introduces a whole new mechanic which once again utilises a ring on the trainer's wrist. These are Z-Moves. These moves are incredibly powerful moves and can only be used once per battle. The Z-Ring is the item that activates it, with Z-Crystals being needed to be held by the Pokémon in order for the moves to be activated. There is a Z-Crystal for each type of Pokémon. There are a few restrictions. As well as only once per battle, the Pokémon has to know a move of the same type as the special Z-Crystal so a Pikachu can't use Bloom Doom unless it knows the move Grass Knot.

Festival PlazaEdit

Main article: Festival Plaza.

The Festival Plaza is a new feature where players meet up for Battles & Trades, but there is far more to it than just that as there are many stores and things to do within the whole area. This area in some ways is a continuation of the Join Avenue from Unova. It is accessed by pressing the special Festival Plaza icon on the bottom screen at any time, warping you there.

As you do more things in the Festival Plaza, then more facilities and more things to do in those facilities will become available as you level up.

Poke PelagoEdit

Main article: Poke Pelago.

The Poké Pelago is a new area where you use the Pokémon from your boxes and have them participate in helping you play games to find a variety of Pokémon, items and more.

As you send more Pokémon to the Poké Pelago, you can increase the amount of islands and increase what you're able to do.

>Hyper TrainingEdit

Main article: Hyper Training.

Where X & Y introduced Super Training, it allowed for you to track the increase of Effort Values and even help boost it. Pokémon Sun & Moon pushes this even further by introducing a new mechanic altogether called Hyper Training.

Hyper Training appears to be located in one part of the Alola region. Here, you can visit this shop and exchange Bottle Caps, a new item, in order to increase the IVs of your Pokémon. This can only be done if your Pokémon has reached Level 100.

Pokemon RefreshEdit

Main article: Pokemon Refresh.

Pokémon Refresh is the successor to Pokémon Amie, but has a few notable differences. First off, the backgrounds you are playing with your Pokémon in will vary depending upon where you are.

However, this time there are changes. In addition to just feeding with your Pokémon and playing mini-games, you can in fact groom the Pokémon. This will not only increase their Affection, but also can help remove things such as Paralysis and Poison. In addition to that, like with Pokémon X & Y, when their affection is at a high point, they will even sometimes avoid attacks or remain with 1 HP when battling in the main game.

Battle RoyalEdit

Main article: Battle Royal.

A brand new online mode introduced in Pokémon Sun & Moon is the special Battle Royal mode. This mode is a 4 player mode where each player sends in one of three Pokémon they bring to battle. In it, they can target down any of the other Pokémon on the field.

This mode is a Free-For-All, so it's every player for themselves. It's not currently known how multi-target moves will work in this format.

TeamsEdit

Main article: Team Skull

Main article: Aether Foundation

In tha Alola region there are Pokemon thieves that call themselves Team Skull.

There also is a team called the Aether Foundation that rescues pokemon from Team Skull and takes care for every Pokemon, even if not from Alola. They also study on the mysterious Ultra Beasts.
